From Funky Junk To A Festive Fall Arrangement

I don't know about you guys, but I am loving all the goodies, sprucing up, and fun that comes with the Falliday season! A couple days ago I was shopping at our local discount market and found these cheapo, vibrant, fall colored orchids on sale for only 2 Euro a pop! I thought it was the perfect way to bring some Autumn colors into our barn. It came in these cruddy looking black planters, so that of course had to change...

I had really been wanting to use this beautiful copper planter that my neighbor was "throwing out" (giving to me, the village hoarder), and these were the perfect flowers to put in there. I simply placed them inside and covered the ugly pots with moss. Moss seems to be the cure for covering up a lot of unsightly ugliness.
I wish I could cover my face with moss when I am having a bad skin day! Ha!

You could easily do this at home by placing some florist foam in any funky old pot, bucket, tea pot etc. Then, just pop some branchy flowers in there and cover the foam or ugly pots with moss. BAM! Who doesn't love a simple, easy and quick project, that is nearly free?

The Vibrant orangey yellow works nicely in our kitchen
Scour your home and see what you can give some new life to!
What pot or vase will you be making over???

DIY Industrial Pumpkins

Are y'all ready for the Falliday season?? This is the time of year that the weather gets absolutely perfect here in Germany. It is warm but crisp, the villages start to smell of wood burning fires, and the trees are aflame of vibrant colors. The sun gives off a beautiful golden hue and the wine festivals begin to call my name. I LOVE FALL in Europe, or anywhere for that matter. Anyhow, before I head off to the largest wine festival in the world, I wanted to show you a super simple DIY project, that you can do this weekend! There are many different variations of this floating around the internet and I wanted to share my version with you. The Industrial-glam, wine lover's version (if you aren't a wine lover I have other options for you). The best part about these industrial pumpkins is that they can be made with all things that you have lying around your house and yard and they won't rot if they sit out through Thanksgiving. I am excited that I will have them for the next few years.
Grab a bunch of rings from mason jar lids, I found that 16 per pumpkin works out quite nicely. I wish I could find large mason jars here, so I could do different sized pumpkins, but I will have to make do with what I have. A bunch of little pumpkins will suffice for now.
Paint the jar rings your desired color. I left half silver and rub n' buffed the other half gold since I have both silver and gold in our barn.

I placed them on twine in alternating colors and tied them off.
Once it is tied, cut the ends of your twine off and shift the lid rings to make a beautiful pumpkin shape. Hot glue moss and a cork in the center to create the "pumpkin" stem. A branch or real pumpkin stem will work in place of a cork. Voila! Shazaam! Kabooyah! Easy, Peasy!

It is simple folks... So simple. If you don't have canning jars at home or moss in your yard, you can find the lids at a Walmart or grocery store and the moss at any craft store.

Once your pumpkins are done, spend a stupid amount of time arranging them on old books and around candles and type writers.

What do you think of my Industrial, glam, wine-o pumpkins??
I am off to fest it up!
Toodles!

My Folks' Cozy Cabin in The Woods

If there is anyone in this world that can see the beauty and potential in something...even something that looks like a complete dump...it's my parents.  For years, my folks have inspired me in so many ways and pushed me to think differently about things...to see things not as they appear, but how they could be. They truly see the beauty in everything, even the simplest of things.

While in Ca, I snapped a few pictures of my parents' little place and I am beyond thrilled to share them with you!
Welcome to my parents' cozy little cabin in the woods!

In 2005, my folks purchased a major fixer-upper North of Napa Valley. It is nestled over a river and through the woods...literally. They poured their heart and soul into this cinderblock, cold, mess of a place and transformed it into a precious stone and knotty-pine cabin that is fit for a storybook.
 Here is the outside before...

And, here it is now!

This is the big shocker for me...
and after...

Instead of tearing it down, they beautified it!

Napa-Lake Stone Cottage is a wonderful getaway for all of us!
We love visiting them in their almost micro-cabin!

Every inch is decorated with beautiful collected pieces.
Can you see where I get my love for antlers ???

The white cabinetry brightens the space up and the double chandeliers add major charm. The baskets  under the counter help with what little storage their cabin has. My folks have really made use of every inch in their home.

It is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a warm coffee.

Not only is my parents' cabin undeniably gorgeous, but they are the greatest hosts. The combination of the two always makes for a wonderful time for me and the rest of our family. It is hard to not fall asleep in the chair or in their hammock while listening to the breeze rustle the pine needles above.

They have packed so much character, charm, and elegance into their little place in the wilderness. They sure are amazingly talented!
Whether you live in a trailer or a mansion, a cinderblock home or a tract home, with some hard work and imagination your place can become gorgeous and unique. My parents teeny home is perfect proof of that! Go, be encouraged, and beautify your home and bless all those who enter in.

Thank you so much for coming on this tour with me!
