Hey there, homies! I have an awesome tutorial for you today! I recently discovered some grapevine candle holders at a very expensive shop in Calistoga, Ca. and they ran from $100.00-$200.00. I loved it, but heck... I want to save my money to travel! So, I decided to make my own, more summery version out of driftwood and here's the end result! It is a fantastic way to bring the beach to your home, and makes for a beautiful gift!
After you have enjoyed a lovely day at the beach and you find a piece of driftwood or that you like, dry it out for about a week and brush it off with an old tooth brush. Use a one and a half inch drill bit and drill into the wood where you want your candles placed about a half of an inch deep. It is always good to have someone there with you to help hold the wood down. Be sure to use the votives with a metal surround (that is how most votives come), so the wax doesn't get all over the wood. Here is a bunch of different ones I have made recently!
This can be done beautifully with birch as well! It also looks great in any style home as a natural accent! What do you think?

Beautiful and unique! Really goes well with Floridian beach-decor, its all the rave out here but it is SO expensive. Very inspiring to see it can be done at such a reasonable price
ReplyDeleteAh, that is beautiful....great idea. Found you off Remodelaholic.....the stripes in the entry add so much. (definitely from blah to fabulous!) Have fun in Germany with your hubby! I think the best way to enjoy life is to embrace every "season" of life and just take it for what it is and enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Selina! I hope you have a blessed day!

ReplyDeleteHey there! Ok so you are going to want to get a drill bit that is 1-1/2 inch wide. It will look something like this
