Driftwood Candle Holder Tutorial

Hey there, homies! I have an awesome tutorial for you today!  I recently discovered some grapevine candle holders at a very expensive shop in Calistoga, Ca. and they ran from $100.00-$200.00. I loved it, but heck... I want to save my money to travel! So, I decided to make my own, more summery version out of driftwood and here's the end result! It is a fantastic way to bring the beach to your home, and makes for a beautiful gift!
After you have enjoyed a lovely day at the beach and you find a piece of driftwood or that you like, dry it out for about a week and brush it off with an old tooth brush. Use a one and a half inch drill bit and drill into the wood where you want your candles placed about a half of an inch deep. It is always good to have someone there with you to help hold the wood down. Be sure to use the votives with a metal surround (that is how most votives come), so the wax doesn't get all over the wood. Here is a bunch of different ones I have made recently!

This can be done beautifully with birch as well! It also looks great in any style home as a natural accent! What do you think?

  2. Beautiful and unique! Really goes well with Floridian beach-decor, its all the rave out here but it is SO expensive. Very inspiring to see it can be done at such a reasonable price

  3. Ah, that is beautiful....great idea. Found you off Remodelaholic.....the stripes in the entry add so much. (definitely from blah to fabulous!) Have fun in Germany with your hubby! I think the best way to enjoy life is to embrace every "season" of life and just take it for what it is and enjoy it!

    1. Hey there! Ok so you are going to want to get a drill bit that is 1-1/2 inch wide. It will look something like this
